Online diabetes management game launched

Friday, June 7th, 2013

As reported by PMLive.com. Boehringer Ingelheim and Lilly have launched an educational new game called Complications Combat to jointly raise the awareness of diabetes.

The game, which comes available for desktop and iPad, aims to educate patients, physicians and the public about the challenges of managing type 2 diabetes and its associated complications.

Boehringer’s Arnd Prilipp said: “The aim and design of the game is simple. However, effective management of type 2 diabetes and its complications is not.

“To simulate this, players are tasked with simultaneously saving the healthy lifestyle items whilst combating the many complications – and it is not easy.”

Complications Combat is designed to raise awareness of the diabetes-related complications, such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney disease, eye problems and foot ulcers.

Friday, May 3rd, 2013

As posted by PMLive.com.  Merck & Co have agreed a partnership deal with California-based biopharma Abide Therapeutics to expand their research efforts into a new diabetes treatment.

The deal, thoughto be worth $430m upfront, covers three key potential targets for therapies in type 2 diabetes which has been identified by Abide, and will provide Merck with worldwide commercial rights.

These targets are part of a group of enzymes know as serine hydrolases, which Abide says have potential in the treatment of metabolic conditions, such as diabetes.

Merck’s large fee demonstrates some level of confidence in their potential in diabetes – an increasingly competitive market as levels increase across the world. And comes just days after Merck announced it would collaborate with Pfizer on phase III diabetes compound ertugliflozin.
